GOG just held their first GOG Showcase, and in it they confirmed that in 2027 we'll see GOG Galaxy fully supported on Linux.

They already confirmed they were working on it to us here at GamingOnLinux back in July - but at least now they're being more public on it. This will be a whole new release of GOG Galaxy for all platforms. You can sign up for the Beta whenever it arrives on the GOG anniversary page. Here's what GOG said about Galaxy for Linux:

"We know this has been a long time coming, but we wanted to do it properly: GOG GALAXY is officially heading to Linux. At the same time, we’ve reworked the client on Windows and Mac to be simpler, run faster, and give you cleaner ways to view your library. Most importantly, our core promise stays untouched: GOG GALAXY is entirely optional. Your games are yours to download and keep through offline installers, exactly as they’ve always been."

On top of that they're working on GOG Social, a revamp of their community experience that looks much more like a modern social network - giving Steam just a little bit of extra competition with the popular Steam Community side of things. GOG said about it:

  • Actual discussions: Post screenshot galleries, videos, and community polls with threaded replies and zero algorithmic noise.
  • Tied to your games: Tag any title from the store so fellow players can jump straight to its page in one click.
  • Your feed, your rules: Use built-in spoiler tags to save first-timers from ruined plot twists, follow specific topics, and tell us directly what we should tweak next during beta.

A bunch of classic games also arrived including:

  • Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition
  • Wing Commander & Wing Commander II (35th Anniversary Editions)
  • Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition
  • Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition
  • Privateer 2: The Darkening (30th Anniversary Editions)
  • Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition

So now we'll have Steam, the Epic Games Launcher and GOG Galaxy all supported on Linux.

2027 will firmly be the Year of Linux Gaming for sure right? I'm allowed to actually claim that now.
