Classic physics-based browser game Happy Wheels gets revived on Steam

Happy Wheels is a game all about getting from A to B, and failing constantly while creating a rather amusing bloody mess. It was originally a very popular Flash browser game from back sometime around 2010, and later came to mobile. Now, it has a new life on Steam as a paid game with some extras.

Writing about the release the developer Jim Bonacci said:

"Hello Steam. Moments before this release of Happy Wheels, I sit in terror looking at the 750,000 wishlists statistic. I realistically was thinking maybe 5k at best, and then maybe it would gain some momentum as it casually settles into its new environment. After all, the game has been publicly available for 16 years. I realize now that it has been floating on an isolated island in space. As a 20+ year Steam connoisseur and a game developer with zero contacts in the industry, it's both shocking and supremely welcoming to get this type of reception in the form of this absurd number 2 weeks after adding it to the store. Thank you so much to those that, for some unfathomable reason, still find Happy Wheels at least somewhat interesting. It's a game that requires community to function, and it seems apparent that it will have one for a bit longer.

With that, I would like to please ask for your understanding as our innocent database servers do their best to deal with the incoming traffic of an unexpected and unknown magnitude today. If everything goes to hell, please know we will be doing what we can to mitigate disaster and adapt. If you are having specific issues, please post in discord or the Steam community.

Happy Wheels will continue to be updated after launch, with improvements to controller and steam deck play, offline support, achievements, bug fixes, and more. Eternal thanks to kwlsh for his massive effort in this porting process and his continued support in everything related to keeping Happy Wheels functioning."

The Linux version tested on Fedora KDE 44 works well! Some fun memories here.

Nice to see more retro oldies like this get easier for people to find. Hopefully the Steam release goes well for the developer. Seems it's off to a good start with an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating rating.
