Could Half-Life 3 finally be real? Fans have been waiting for the game for years, and a recent slip-up by a Valve developer has once again raised hopes that the long-awaited title is actually in development.

This time, the news comes directly from Valve composer and technical specialist Mike Morasky, who accidentally mentioned HLX, the rumored code name for Half-Life 3, during a public event.

The incident happened on October 21, during a panel at the GameSoundCon 2026 conference.

Half-Life 3 Rumors Grow After Valve Developer Accidentally Mentions HLX

While discussing Valve’s audio systems and the sound technology used in Source 2 (a video game engine developed by Valve), Morasky compared the audio systems of different projects, including Deadlock and HLX.

He said, “And in fact, I think Deadlock has their own version of HDR. You know, HLX has its own version, so on and so forth.”

Right after mentioning HLX, Morasky suddenly stopped talking, apparently realizing what he had just said. A nearby Valve colleague then quietly responded with a sarcastic “Nice work.”

This quickly caught the attention of Half-Life fans online, who saw it as another possible sign that the third game is in development.

The name HLX is not new to those who have been following Half-Life 3 rumors. Over the years, dataminers have found several references to HLX in Valve’s files, leading many to believe that it is the internal code name for the next Half-Life game. However, Valve has never officially confirmed that HLX is Half-Life 3, making Morasky’s accidental mention particularly interesting.

It’s also worth noting that this is not the first time Morasky has apparently revealed more than he wanted. During an interview in 2023, he referred to “both the Half-Life games” he had worked on before quickly correcting himself to the singular “game.” His only officially released Half-Life credit is Half-Life: Alyx, which raised questions about whether he was also working on another unannounced project.

Nonetheless, for now, Valve has not confirmed the existence of Half-Life 3 or explained what HLX actually is, so all this should still be taken with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure to let you know here at MP1st.
